Logan Boulevard extension to reach Bonita Beach Road; construction to begin on roundabout

People living on the eastern edge of Bonita Beach road will soon face about six months of lane restrictions as crews work to extend Logan Boulevard to Bonita Springs from north Collier County.

A roundabout will be added between San Remo at Palmira and Village Walk of Bonita Springs. The road is set to open in February 2020.

Here are five facts about the new two-lane roadway:

Bonita Springs is pitching in $2.95 million

Several agencies are helping pay for the Logan Boulevard extension. Bonita Springs’ payment is close to $3 million. Developer GL Homes also is paying part of the bill. Landscaping costs are not included.

Bonita Springs set aside its portion of the funding before Hurricane Irma’s cleanup costs strained the city’s budget.

Parts of Bonita Beach Road will be affected

Beginning June 12, the eastbound lanes of Bonita Beach Road are set to close. The construction will mostly affect people living east of the intersection, including residents of Village Walk and Valencia Bonita.

Traffic will be diverted through the two westbound lanes. Drivers to merge and move across the median. The road closure will swap partway through the project with traffic diverting to the eastbound lanes.

The new roundabout will change traffic flow

Bonita Springs will forgo traffic lights in favor of an egg-shaped roundabout. It will be two lanes wide and adjust existing roadways.

The intersection is larger and wider than the city’s newest roundabout at Terry Street and Old 41 Road.

This would be the first connection between Collier County and Bonita Springs east of Interstate 75

The Logan Boulevard extension sits more than 2.5 miles east of the I-75 junction. It would be the first North Naples-Bonita Springs roadway connection east of the major roadway and could shorten commutes for anyone living or working away from the coast.

Only three major roadways — U.S. 41, Livingston Road/Imperial Boulevard and I-75 — reach across county lines into Bonita Springs. The new extensions could take traffic away from other areas in the city.

No plans are in place to extend the road farther north towards Estero.
